Tunability is the key to accessing nitric oxide's multiple mechanisms of action.

Novan’s NITRICIL™ technology enables the delivery of nitric oxide by storing the gaseous species on large polymers that result in a diverse pipeline of “timed-release” nitric oxide-releasing new chemical entities for short- or long-term healthcare applications.  By storing the nitric oxide as part of an engineered macromolecule, the characteristics of the framework can be controlled to tune the level of nitric oxide storage, the rate of nitric oxide release, and the molecule size to target nitric oxide delivery. The result is stabilized, drug-able nitric oxide.

Size - Where you need it. Engineering the molecule's geometry and weight allows Novan to focus delivery on specific tissues and limit off-target effects.

Quantity - How much you need.   Controlling the concentration of nitric oxide dictates its ability to do everything from killing bacteria to promoting vasodilation.

Delivery - When you need it most.  The ability to manipulate the rate of release can "turn on" or "turn off" physiological events with a single agent.  This is perhaps the most important attribute in unlocking nitric oxide's therapeutic potential.
